Pontevedra’s patron saint is in celebration. Since last Friday, and until next Monday, the Virgen Peregrina and the city of Pontevedra are celebrating their biggest festivities with shows, plays, and lots of music.

The Festas da Peregrina began last Friday. However, the “pregón”, by Violeta Mosquera, marked the beginning of the festivities. The opening speech of the musician and teacher was focused on feminism and creating community, as well as on the vindication of the culture in times of pandemic. The words of the pregonera were followed by numerous shows and concerts such as Xabier Díaz e Adufeiras de Sal, Carlota Crey, Rodrigo Cuevas, Recycled J or Pol Granch.

Today, you can enjoy street theater and passacaglia music especially designed for the little ones of the house. From 9 p.m. onwards, there will be concerts by Combo Paradiso, Amaro Ferreiro and Bejo.

The next few days we will have the same dynamic, with cultural entertainment in the street during the mornings and afternoons and musical performances and comedy shows at night. In this way, tomorrow we could enjoy the shows of Xulio Lorenzo, in Praza da Ferraría, Juan Perro, in Praza de España, and Luis Piedrahita, in Campolongo. And, during the weekend, it will be the turn of Vocal Tempo, Xosé Manuel Budiño, Blanco Palamera, Cora Velasco, Sabela, Triángulo de Amor Bizarro, Susana Seivane, Café Quijano and the Late Motiv Band.

On Monday, August 16, the festivities will move to the neighborhood of San Roque to honor its patron saint. There will be entertainment in the streets all day and, during the afternoon, the performance of the folk group Os de Algures, comparsa de cabezudo and Duos Pontes.

If you want to know more about the Peregrina Festivities, you can learn more about the program here. And, if you haven’t decided yet to visit Pontevedra, we encourage you to discover this beautiful city in our trip to the Rías Baixas! Available every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday!
