The Route of the Lighthouses: an unforgettable journey along the Costa da Morte

Every August 7 is celebrated the figure of a fundamental element for maritime signaling, the lighthouse. Its strategic location not only guarantees the safety of navigators, but also leaves incredible landscapes in front of the sea. So much so that the Route of the Lighthouses, in Galicia, offers unparalleled views and an unparalleled experience. This coastal path, which connects Malpica with Finisterre through the magical Costa da Morte, is a 200-kilometer adventure that unfolds in eight stages.

The stages of the Route of the Lighthouses

1. Malpica-Niñóns (21.3 km). The route starts at the smallest lighthouse. It starts at the entrance of the port of Malpica until it reaches the beach of Niñóns. Walkers can enjoy six beaches, the Sisargas Islands, cliffs and Punta Nariga. 
2. Niñóns-Ponteceso (27.1 km). This stage enters wooded and rural areas, enjoying the tranquility of the surroundings. From the port of Santa Mariña, Praia da Barda or the Roncudo Lighthouse, these almost thirty kilometers promise to take our breath away.
3. Ponteceso-Laxe (25.3 km). The third stage starts in the Anllóns estuary and climbs up to the Castelo de Lourido mountain. From there, it descends to run along the coast of Cabanas, until it reaches Laxe.
4. Laxe-Arou (18 km). This is the shortest and easiest stage. From Monte da Insua, it continues to the Lighthouse of Laxe, going up to the Rock of Soesto, which will delight visitors with the view of its beach. Then, it continues along Traba beach and its lagoon, to Camelle, to finish in Arou.
5. Arou-Camariñas (23.8 km). The fifth stage will delight us with some of the most mythical enclaves of the Costa da Morte, with Cape Vilán or the Cemetery of the English, among others.
6. Camariñas-Muxía (32.6 km). Although its more than 30 kilometers of extension may scare the intrepid who dare to take this route, it is a completely flat road. In it we will find points of interest such as the Ría de Camariñas, the Río Grande, the Praia do Lago or the Santuario da Virxe da Barca. 
7. Muxía-Nemiña (25.3 km). The coast from Muxía to the Touriñán Lighthouse is a rough route, the hardest of the whole route, which will not leave anyone indifferent. 
8. Nemiña-Finisterre (26.9 km). As it could not be otherwise, the Ruta dos Faros ends at the end of the world, at the Fisterra Lighthouse.
