A day in Santiago de Compostela

Santiago de Compostela is the capital of Galicia and many tourists visit it every year. It is a city declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO thanks to its monumental beauty, extraordinary conservation and because it is the goal of a thousand-year pilgrimage route: the Camino de Santiago, which since the 9th century transformed this place of the finisterrae into a meeting of the faith and the thinking of the western world.

That's why you can not miss anything about this city if you visit us. Santiago falls in love and you'll want to stay more than a day, but if your problem is the lack of time, we propose this small one day route.

Morning

It's time to get up early because a great day is waiting for us! We start the day touring the main streets of the historic center and then enter the Cathedral where we recommend renting an audio guide or sign up for guided tours. Once there, you can not miss the roofs of the Cathedral and its wonderful views of the city.

Eat

The most delicious moment of the day has come, to enjoy the Galician gastronomy. Hundreds and hundreds of dishes among which we recommend empanada, octopus, Padrón peppers and of course Galician wines and Santiago cake. In the old part of the city there are many restaurants offering a variety of typical dishes.

Late

In the afternoon we suggest a walk to the main parks and gardens that offer panoramic views of the monumental area: San Domingos de Bonaval and Alameda. The first one also has two museums that must be visited: the Museo do Pobo Galego, the ethnographic museum of Galicia, and the CGAC - Galician Center of Contemporary Art - designed by the Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza.
