Publicado Por: Simply Galicia En: Our Recommendations Comentario: 0 Golpear: 579

When it comes to discovering Galicia, from Simply we propose two excursions that allow you to get a small mental picture of everything you can find in our land. The first one, along the coast, we travel and taste the Rías Baixas. The second one, with nothing to envy, goes into the Galician heart, crossing the Ribeira Sacra until arriving to the city of Ourense. Precisely, of the latter we reveal today some other curiosities.

The Cathedral of Ourense

It is believed that the most important temple of the city is located on the remains of the primitive basilica of the Swabian period, already dedicated to the memory of St. Martin of Tours, and dating from the second half of the twelfth century and the first half of the thirteenth century. One of the most striking components of the cathedral is its portico and how the different elements of good and evil are represented.

The temple was declared a National Monument on June 3, 1931 and has the honors of a Basilica since 1887.

Hot springs, hot springs and more hot spring

Ourense is well known for its hot waters and besides having urban thermal areas and also in the middle of nature, it holds the title of second city in Europe with more thermal baths. We can find some such as Outariz and Burga de Canedo, the largest thermal space in the city; the Muíño da Veiga, on the banks of the Miño; A Chavasqueira, the nearest bathing area to the city center; or the thermal pool of As Burgas, in the historic center.

Plaza Mayor

The Plaza Mayor is a meeting point for locals and tourists: with bars, porches and terraces ideal for a drink. In this place you can find the Casa del Concello or the Old Episcopal Palace, but what is really curious is the inclination of this neuralgic center, which you will quickly notice.

The bridges of Ourense

In addition to thermal baths, the Galician city has another element in abundance: bridges. Ourense has a whopping eight bridges that span the entire city.

We can mention the Old Bridge or Roman Bridge, was the first crossing over the Miño River; the Millennium Bridge, built in 2001, has a pedestrian walkway that rises up to 22 meters above the river; New Bridge, built in the late nineteenth century and with certain reminiscences to the designs of Eiffel; the Novísimo Bridge, built in the 1970s and which was crucial for the development of the "accesses of Galicia; the Loña Bridge, a medieval building that can still be crossed; a viaduct, which can only be crossed by train; Presa de Velle, over the gates of the Velle dam; and pedestrian footbridges over the Miño, which made it possible to complete a route of more than 14 kilometers free of traffic.
