We are in the best time in Galicia to know the towns of its interior. Galicia has thousands of magical corners of which we have chosen ten. Take good note for your getaway.

Ribadavia

Former headquarters of the Kingdom of Galicia, located in the municipality of Ourense. Its Jewish quarter is the most important in the community, in fact, the wine trade that was produced in the area was almost monopolized by Jews and, since the Middle Ages, was drank in Italy, the Netherlands, Germany and England. They are precisely attributed the cultivation of the vines taking advantage of terraced terraces and extending the irrigation network.

Piornedo

Located in the heart of Os Ancares, in the municipality of Cervantes (Lugo), is this pre-Roman village. It was declared a Historic-Artistic Site and its most striking image is the pallozas. Formerly they were the homes of the inhabitants of the area and today they are used as a stable for animals.

Castro Caldelas

Built in the 14th century, the fortress is the most visible symbol of the history of this cozy municipality of the province of Ourense. In addition to the historic center, it is worth to immerse yourself in the immense landscape value of the surroundings and get lost for a few hours in the Ribeira Sacra.

Navia de Suarna

Located in the region of Os Ancares, Navia de Suarna (Lugo) marks the Galician border with Asturias and León. It’s worth to stand out its landscape, where the castle deserves special mention, a construction made of slabs of slate and linked to the Counts of Altamira.

Allariz

Declared a historical and artistic center in 1971, it is another jewel of the province of Ourense. At the foot of the Arnoia river stands a monumental village that has its origin in the Suevian era and that, during the Middle Ages, would be the school in which Alfonso X the Wise learned Galician.

A Pobra de Trives

Center of a wide region, the municipality of Ourense was the place chosen by several noble families to settle, leaving their mark on the construction of their residences. The House of the Marquises (19th century) or the Casa Grande de Trives (17th century).

Mondoñedo

Located in a wide valley of A Mariña in Lugo, it is one of the most evocative capitals of the ancient Kingdom of Galicia. Presided by the Romanesque cathedral, its historic center has been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest. Among other gems, the basilica treasures one of the most important religious art museums in Spain.

Monforte de Lemos

Capital of the Ribeira Sacra, the town of Lugo has its origin in the twelfth century and, in fact, in its urban center it preserves numerous buildings and monuments that highlight the importance it reached in another era. Declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, in its old area you can visit the whole of San Vicente do Pino, the Convent of the Clarisas (without forgetting its Museum of Sacred Art) or San Jacinto. One of its emblems is the College of Nuestra Señora de la Antigua(also known as Los Escolapios).

Celanova

It is another nucleus that invites you to immerse yourself in the medieval past of Galicia. The municipality of Ourense has been able to preserve the narrow streets conceived centuries ago to reach the Castle Tower (14th century), now transformed into a Regional Information Center. Dating back to the 10th century, one must visit is the Benedictine monastery of San Salvador, a majestic monument that presides over the main square.

Pedrafita do Cebreiro

Magical enclave of the French Way, the municipality of Lugo is the end point of a tough stage for pilgrims. Beyond the beautiful views it offers to the lands of León, it is worth immortalizing the pallozas that reproduce the ways of life of yesteryear.
