The thermal city of Galicia

Publicado Por: Simply Galicia En: Our Recommendations Comentario: 0 Golpear: 1014

Without a doubt, if there is a city ready for autumn-winter in Galicia, it is Orense, the thermal city for excellence. The plans to enjoy the cold winter in the heat, are many in this city in the interior of Galicia.

Ourense is located in the northwest corner of the Iberian Peninsula, in the valley that forms the pass of the river Miño and its tributaries Barbaña and Loña. With more than 107,000 inhabitants, it is the third Galician city and capital of the homonymous province, the only one of Galicia without a coastal strip but of a very great natural value. Places of great beauty and interest, such as the village of Ribadavia or the Ribeira Sacra, are only a few kilometers away.

The hydrotherapy in Ourense has more than two thousand years of history and begins in the springs of As Burgas. The first Roman settlers erected buildings here for worship and enjoy these waters, initiating a tradition that reaches our days. The thermal springs of As Burgas are one of the most emblematic and beloved spaces in the city, directly linked to its origins.

Here the ancient Aquis Aurienses ("golden waters") would be born, a Roman settlement formed around these mineral-medicinal springs that today continue to flow at more than 60 ° C in the heart of the Historical Center.

The Miño Thermal Route

The Miño Thermal Route consists of five kilometers of pedestrian path where seven thermal facilities are concentrated in which to rest and relax while enjoying a bath in the middle of nature, be it winter or summer.

The route begins on the right bank of the river, in the thermal area of A Chavasqueira, the closest to the city. The road continues to O Tinteiro, a fountain-viewpoint very frequented by the residents of the city, and from here to the thermal area of Muíño da Veiga with its four swimming pools.

A little further on, the thermal station of Outariz offers beauty treatments, sauna and two thermal circuits at very competitive prices. Just before the footbridge that crosses to the other shore we find the Outariz and Burga de Canedo swimming pools, the largest center of thermal activity in Ourense, besides free use. On the opposite bank, in Reza, the route continues along Paseo de la Ninfas, where we will see the last thermal area of this area, the Reza fountain.
