Christmas is one of the most beautiful and endearing times of the year. Laughter and good humor brighten up the streets along with colorful lights, Christmas trees, shiny decorations and, all this, with Christmas carols in the background cheering up the atmosphere. Undoubtedly, there is a special magic in this time of the year, which seems to come earlier and earlier (which we don't dislike at all!). If we talk about Christmas in Galicia, it is inevitable to talk about Vigo, so let's review everything you need to know!

Last Saturday, November 20, the city of Vigo inaugurated Christmas in Galicia (and we could almost say in the world). From now on, we can enjoy the attractions of the Praza de Compostela (from 17.30 to 23.00 hours), where the absolute queen is the giant ferris wheel with privileged views of the city, and the Cíes Market. In addition, if we like skating, we can also enjoy an ice rink in the As Avenidas promenade and another in Samil.

In Rosalía de Castro Street there will also be another set of attractions: a virtual simulator, a classic sled train, a Mario Bros themed attraction and a free fall attraction. Continuing with the route, at Porta do Sol we will be able to go on the Venetian carousel and, in Coia, there will be guaranteed fun with a traditional Christmas circus. And, as if that were not enough, there is also a tourist train with several routes and a Santa Claus house so that the little ones can ask him for their gifts for December 25!

On the other hand, if Christmas in Vigo is characterized by anything, it is for its gigantic Christmas decorations in which nothing more and nothing less than? 11 million LED lights! Its schedule will be from Sunday to Wednesday, from 18.00 hours to 00.30 hours and, from Thursday to Saturday and holiday eves, from 18.00 hours to 02.00 hours.

  • Giant gift box. It is located at the intersection of Gran Vía and Urzáiz streets and is 17 meters high.
  • Giant ball. At the beginning of the promenade of Príncipe Street we can enjoy this great ornament of lights.
  • Snowman. This year the location is changed again and will be at the intersection of Pontevedra and García Barbón streets.
  • Luminous castle. It is the new member of the set of Christmas decorations. It is located in Policarpo Sanz, at the intersection with Velázquez Moreno.
  • Two giant trees. The first is located in the Alameda, is natural and has a height of around 30 meters. The second is made entirely of LED lights and is located on Policarpo Sanz street.
  • Other points that may interest you. The photocall "Vigo, where Christmas is born", very close to the giant ball, the monumental nativity scene in the Casa das Artes, the Ofeitoaman craft fair and much more.

Now that you know everything you can find in the olive city, are you going to miss Christmas in the Rías Baixas?
