A brief history of Cirque du Soleil
Cirque du Soleil was founded in 1984 in Baie-Saint-Paul, Quebec, Canada, by two street performers, Guy Laliberté and Daniel Gauthier. Initially, the circus was a group of street performers who performed in the streets and squares of the province of Quebec.
Cirque du Soleil revolutionized the circus industry by eliminating animal acts and focusing on artistic presentations that combined circus, theater, live music and dance. This innovative mix of artistic elements allowed the circus to attract a wider and more diverse audience.
As Cirque du Soleil gained notoriety and success in Canada, it began to tour internationally. Its "Nouvelle Expérience" show in 1990 marked its first tour outside Canada and took the circus to the United States and Europe.
Some of his most iconic shows are Alegria, Saltimbanco, Mystère, O, La Nouba or Varekai, among others. Each show has its own story and theme, but they all share a commitment to artistic excellence.
