Yesterday we celebrated World Health Day and every day it becomes clearer that travelling is synonymous with physical and mental wellbeing. At Simply Galicia we've done some in-depth research and today we're going to tell you about the benefits of travelling whenever you have the chance. Here are 5 reasons why you should travel!

Less stress

If the frenetic pace of routine is overwhelming you, disconnecting with a short trip or excursion is your ideal plan. The benefits on our emotional wellbeing are some of the most obvious. We leave the routine behind and our curiosity awakens with an unknown place, even if it is very close to our home.

A stimulating exercise

There are three elements that are considered key to stimulating our minds: novelty, variety and challenge. As you may have already guessed, travel meets all these requirements: we are confronted with new sensations, new landscapes, people, sounds, aromas and flavours. All of this stimulates our brain and makes it more plastic and creative.

Sense of community

According to National Geographic magazine, scientists at the Gerontological Research Centre of Finland have observed that people who engage in cultural activities or travel have a strong sense of belonging to a group, a better self-acceptance and a lower mortality rate, as it is an activity that promotes physical activity.

It builds self-esteem and makes you better

The further the trip you have in mind, the more stimulating it will be and the more challenges it will involve: moving around, getting used to an unknown place, its people and culture... Travelling inevitably leads to training and boosting our self-esteem by facing small implicit challenges.

On the other hand, it makes us better people, more tolerant and more cultured by being in contact with new places and unique experiences.

A healthy and happy heart!

Some studies have found that travel can be effective in reducing the risk of heart attack, especially in older people. In fact, according to a study by Psychosomatic Medicine, people who travel regularly are 21% less likely to suffer a cardiac arrest.

And, for us at least, nothing cheers our hearts more than a good plan to discover a new place. Because travelling is a unique and very rewarding experience. It makes us happier, from its planning to its execution, it fills us with memories and unique experiences, and this is very satisfying.

Now that we are sure that we have convinced you of the importance of taking the time to explore new places, their culture, gastronomy and people, we offer you several plans that you will find irresistible. How does an excursion with an official Spanish/English guide to the Rías Baixas, the Ribeira Sacra, Fisterra or the most impressive cliffs of Galicia sound to you?
