Galicia has a lot to offer every day of the year, but at Christmas it is covered with a unique magic. It's true that the city par excellence that takes the podium during the holidays is Vigo, but there are many other plans that allow us to (re)discover the charm of Galicia.

Galicia has a lot to offer every day of the year, but at Christmas it is covered with a unique magic. It's true that the city par excellence that takes the podium during the holidays is Vigo, but there are many other plans that allow us to (re)discover the charm of Galicia.

Christmas in Santiago de Compostela

The Praza do Obradoiro is a mandatory stop if you visit Compostela, and even more so during the most special weeks of the year. One of the busiest spots in the Galician capital is crowned with a 22-metre high tree. In addition to this, there are 21 kilometres of lights that run through and decorate all the nooks and crannies of the old quarter, Alameda and the centre. In total, there will be 160 light locations, 150 lampposts, 80 three-dimensional elements and 50 natural trees that we will be able to enjoy until 6 January.

In addition, there will be street shows for the little ones, music, gastronomy, Christmas markets, nativity scenes that will leave no one indifferent and much more that you can discover here.

Vigo and its record-breaking festivities

The city of Vigo is in the media spotlight when December is just around the corner, and with good reason. For all the lighting that adorns the city, 11 million LED lights are needed. What's more, it's quite a spectacle: giant decorations, attractions for the little ones, Christmas markets, crafts, gastronomy and plenty to enjoy in the city. Without a doubt, if you are travelling to Galicia, this is an obligatory stop.

If you're thinking of going to Vigo for Christmas, in our previous post we reviewed the main Christmas attractions you can find.

Ourense and its Christmas traditions

This year the thermal city recovers some of the Christmas traditions such as the Three Kings Parade from the station and adds to its celebration a Christmas village with activities and a great snowfall in the Plaza Mayor.

If there is an obligatory stop during the festive season, it is in the chapel of San Cosme, in the historic centre, to delight us with the Baltar Nativity Scene, made up of more than a hundred figures by the sculptor Arturo Baltar.

In addition to the reception of Father Christmas or the Great Cavalcade with Their Majesties, Ourense will be filled with special moments to share with the family: music with the itinerant musical bus or the concert of the Symphony Orchestra of Galicia; snowfall in the Plaza Mayor during the weekends and Ice Rink in the Ponte Vella Shopping Centre; and Christmas spaces in Bispo Cesáreo and San Lázaro. You can check out everything the city has to offer here

Although this is only a small sample of all that Galicia has to offer, it allows us to see that we take Christmas very seriously.
